How much should a social media manager cost?

There are several different ways that agencies price jobs, particularly when it comes to buying Facebook traffic for advertisers in addition to managing their day to day content.

One of the key indicators on how much it will cost is obviously based on how much time it will take to manage, therefor some agencies will work off a minimum hourly cost for the Campaign Manager, often this is not disclosed but rather it's used to estimate the price that get's justified to the business in the end.

With the recent changes to Facebook (see last weeks blog), organic page post are now a lot less effective as is the content created for it. For the advertiser we would stress that you should now be paying a lot less for these services and only look to include it as part of an overall Management plan that includes using an experienced traffic buyer working on your paid content across your channels who knows how to optimise and analyse your results on an ongoing basis.

If you are currently paying a hefty fee for basic Social Media Management on platforms such Facebook now is time to negotiate the price or move on to another agency or freelancer as this type of activity is no longer going to bring you results.

It now makes a lot more sense to pay your Social Media Managers a % of your overall advertising spend or alternatively, if ad spend is low, based on how much revenue they are bringing your business.
